Duffy Assembly

On Monday we had a very special assembly where we had a special speaker and books were presented to one child from each room.

Our special speaker was Nathan Gray and he was talking all about how reading has been important for him and that is why he has been able to do all the exciting things he has done in his life. He spoke about how he walked the Great Wall of china which is 4,000km. This took him 9 months to complete.

Room 27s book was presented to Elizabeth.

Mr Parkers Visit

On Wednesday we had Mr Parker come and talk to our team. All the year 3/4 classes went into Room 17 to listen all about what would happen if a volcano was to erupt in Auckland. We learnt a lot and are looking forward to sharing our new knowledge.

We also showed Mr Parker some of the volcanic art work we have been working on with Mrs Parker.

A big thank you to Mr Parker for coming in and sharing with us!

Volcanic Eruption

Today we looked at the volcano map of New Zealand and discovered that there are more volcanoes in the North Island than the South Island.

There are 49 volcanoes in the Auckland volcanic field. We began discussing how everyone would get out of Auckland if there was a volcanic eruption.

Tomorrow we have Mr Parker (Mrs Parkers husband) coming in. He will be talking about this, and how people would be evacuated. Come with lots of open ended questions for him.

Duffy Theatre

Yesterday we were lucky enough to have the Duffy Theatre visit our school. They had two performance, one in the middle block for the juniors and one in the afternoon for the seniors (which includes us). We really enjoyed the show and there was so much laughter.

It was a lot of fun. We even managed to get some photos with the performers.

The ANZAC Puppy

ANZAC day is coming up on April the 25th and our own special ANZAC assembly will be happening on the 16th of April.

With this in mind we began reading a book called "The ANAZC puppy." We read half of the story before having to make and write our predictions about what we thought might happen next.

I had videoed a few more children sharing their predictions but sadly the iPad did not catch their talking very clearly. So here is the one that it did.

Volcano Art

Room 27 have been busy with Mrs Parker creating volcano art and writing to go with them. Here are a few pictures of some of our finished products. We are looking forward to sharing these when we host assembly in week 1 of term 2.

Home Disaster Kit

This afternoon we have had fun learning about being prepared if we were ever in an emergency and were told to stay in our houses. We started creating our own home disaster kit. Tomorrow we will be discussing the different items we have chosen and why we think it would be important to have.
Here are some of the girls showing off their finished products:

Tennis

We have been very lucky to have tennis happening once a week for the past four weeks. We have really enjoyed going out on a Thursday after morning tea and practicing some new skills.
